Every year Sri Sri Jagannatha Baladeva and Subhadra Mai are taken on three separate chariots for the auspicious Rathayatra festival through the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar. It is the expressed desire of Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja that at the completion of Rathayatra, the festival continue for another nine days in a specially constructed Gundicha Mandir. Here, many programs are held every evening for Lord Jagannatha's pleasure. Lord Jagannatha enjoys the pastime of Gundicha while many thousands of local people of Bhubaneswar and the surrounding regions come each evening to have darsan of Lord Jagannatha and participate in the festival. A temporary festival tent is constructed each year for the festival with the intention of building a more permanent mandir for Lord Jagannatha. The Sri Gundicha Mandir project is now underway after it's initial conception expressed by Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja well over twenty years ago.

On the 6th Aug 2012, just prior to Sri Janmastami Celebrations and Srila Prabhupada's Appearance Day, Srila Prabhupada’s Memorial Bhajan Kutir was demolished by the workers of N.H.A.I of Bhubaneswar. There has been an out cry worldwide because of how significant this memorial bhajan kutir is to ISKCON and especially the disciples of H.D.G Srila A.C. The Divine 83rd Vyasapuja celebration of His Divine Grace Srila Gour Govinda Swami Srila Gurudeva will be observed on the 17th September 2012. This year Pursottama Adhika Masa is observed. Every two (sometimes three) years an extra month is added during the month of Hrsikesh after the new moon (like a leap year). During the month of Pursottama Adhika Masa Caturmasya is not observed and the month of Hrsikesh resumes again after the next new moon which is the 16th Sept. Click here for Calendar Information.

During a visit to Kendrapara, Orissa, 28th Sep 1993 on the 155th anniversary of the Divine Appearance of Sri Srimad Acarya Thakura Bhaktivinoda, Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja spoke of the spiritual significance of Choti and how it is sripat, the native place of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura. Though relatively unknown at the time, Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja had predicted the establishment of Choti as a very important holy Vaisnava Tirtha, a very sacred place. Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja concluded that the establishment of Choti and revealing it to the world, would not be possible without the causeless mercy of Sri Srimad Acarya Thakura Bhaktivinoda.

Divine Grace Srila Gour Govinda Swami Srila Gurudeva is a Vaishnava Acharya
appearing in the Brahma-Madhva Gaudiya Sampradaya, or line of disciplic
succession of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Srila Gour Govinda Swami appeared on this earth on September 2, 1929
in the town of Jagannath Pura in the state of Orissa, India. Srila Gour
Govinda Swami was born into a family of pure Vaishnavas and from the very
beginning of his life up until his Divine disappearance in February 1996,
he was always absorbed in the loving service of the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna.
Following in the footsteps of ISKCON Founder Acharya His
Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Srila Gour
Govinda Swami travelled the world preaching the message of Krsna Consciousness
to the fallen souls of Kali Yuga.
