SRI NITYANANDA TATTVA
TRANSLATION
by
His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada

May Nityananda Rama be the object of my constant remembrance. Sankarsana, Sesa Naga and the Visnu who lie on the Karana Ocean, Garbha Ocean and the ocean of milk are the plenary portions and His portions of His plenary portions.

I surrender unto the lotus feet of Nityananda Rama, who is known as Sankarsana in the midst of the catur-vyaha (consisting of Vasudeva, Sankarsana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha). He possesses full opulences and resides in Vaikunthaloka, far beyond the material creation.

I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Nityananda Rama, whose partial representation called Karanodakasayi Visnu, lying on the Karana Ocean, is the original purusa, the master of the illusionary energy, and the shelter of all the universes.

I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Nityananda Rama, a partial part of whom is Garbhodakasayi Visnu. From the navel of Garbhodakasayi Visnu sprouts the lotus that is the birthplace of Brahma, the engineer of the universe. The stem of that lotus is the resting place of the multitude of planets.

I offer my respectful obeisances unto the feet of Nityananda Rama, whose secondary part is the Visnu lying in the ocean of milk. That Ksirodakasayi Visnu is the Supersoul of all living entities and the maintainer of all the universes. Sesa Naga is His further sub-part.

The Childhood Pastimes of Lord Nityananda
A story about Lord Nityananda in Ekacakra Village and the killing of the Bakasura Demon by Bhima in Dvarupa Yuga
spacer

Sri Nitai EkacakraIn His bala-lila the boyhood pastimes of Nityananda, His father’s name was Hadai Ojha and His mother’s name was Padmavati. The name of the village He appeared in is Ekacakra-grama. If you go to Navadvipa you may visit and see. So after a few years of Nityananda’s birth another son was born to Hadai Ojha and Padmavati. They called Him Banka-raya.

In their boyhood days these two brothers are playing in that Ekacakra village with boys of their same age. The Yamunanadi River flows close to this village. They were performing various lilas, Krsna-lilas and Rama-lilas in their boyhood days. Banka means in three places curved. Raya means Radharani. Banka-Raya means syamasundara, syam, tri-bhanga-lalita and Raya-Radharani. Mixed together means Gaura. Syama and Raya or Radharani mixed is Gaura.

Lord Nityananda boyhood pastimesOne day these two brothers went to Mayuresvara, the village of Their maternal grandfather. So one day these two brothers were going to enter into a jungle that was situated close to that village. Two villagers came and said, “Don’t go, don't enter into that jungle. In that jungle there is a very great venomous cobra. One who goes there, this cobra devours and never returns. Please don’t go.” But Nityananda didn’t listen to them. These two brothers went into the jungle. That great cobra was staying underneath a Tamal tree there. He came out, raising his hood, hissing but Nityananda was not at all disturbed or afraid. He raised His hand and said, “Hey, stupid rascal! Stay there! Stay there! Don't come forward." The cobra stayed. Nityananda Prabhu Himself is Nagaraja Ananta. So when He said, “Stop,” then the great cobra stopped. Nityananda asked, "Why are you persecuting innocent animals and human beings?” Then the cobra related the story from Dvapara yuga.

The Pandavas in Ekacakra

PandavasIn Dvapara yuga, the five Pandava brothers, panca Pandavas, were staying in Ekacakra village in the house of a brahmin named Vedasrava. The Kuravas, especially the eldest son of Dhrtarastra, Duryodhana was a very crooked person who built a house of lac and somehow got the Pandavas to stay there. This house was to be lit on fire and burn them to ashes. But somehow, Krsna-raksati – the Pandavas are dear devotees of Krsna they were protected. Krsna protected them. They escaped from that house and they were not burnt.

So after that they disguised themselves as brahmans and they were wandering and wandering. During this time, Vyasadeva met them. They had come to Ekacakra village. Vyasadeva kept them there in the house of the poor brahmin named Vedasrava. They were all staying in that village with their mother Kunti. At that time, demons were coming to that village and creating disturbances and eating human beings and animals. One such demon was there named Bakasura. Therefore out of four brothers one of the brothers was always staying with Mother Kunti. All four brothers were going out to collect some alms, bhiksa. One day Bhima was there with Mother Kunti.

brahminaIn the Mahabharata, it is mentioned that where the Pandavas were staying is known as Pandava-tala. Still that place is there near Ekacakra, Pandava-tala. In the Mahabharata it is mentioned that Vyasadeva meet the Pandavas there. He came to this village and told them to stay one month in that village in the house of that poor brahmin, Vedasrava.

So Vedasrava was a poor brahmin, he spared half of his house for the Pandavas and the other half was for himself and his wife, one son and one daughter. They were very poor. Everyday he goes out and begs for alms. There is nothing in his house. So at that time the Pandavas were disguised and saying they are brahmins, though they are ksatriyas.

So one day the drummer came to the house of Vedasrava. Beating his drum he proclaimed: "Tomorrow is the turn of Vedasrava brahmin to go to Bakasura-pali, he will go to Bakasura. Arrange for his food and arrange one man, one human being, everything to go to Bakasura-pali." He proclaimed like this. When they heard this, the brahmana and brahmani were in anxiety because there is nothing in their house, how can they arrange? Somehow the brahmana got something from bhiksa and the brahmani went to her father’s house and collected something, so they collected for Bakasura's food but the problem was one human being must be sent so the Bakasura demon will eat him. Who will go? Who will go? In the brahmana's family there were four persons, the brahmin, his wife the brahmani and their ten year old boy whose name was Vidyadhara and their eight year old daughter named  Bhanumati. Who will go? The brahmana said, “I will go.” When the brahmana said, ‘he would go,’ his son Vidyadhara said, “No! No! I’ll go. When the son said, “I’ll go” they all cried.

Queen KuntiThis crying could be heard by Kunti. She ran there, “What has happened to you. Why are you crying?” They told her that one demon is staying close to the village only four or five miles away. His name is Bakasura. This demon was coming to the village everyday and indiscriminately killing many animals and human beings in the village. So the villagers assembled together to hold a meeting. They decided to request the demon to not come everyday to the village. Instead they will send Bakasura one human being, one cart load of anna [rice] and pitha [cake] and one pair of buffalo everyday to eat. Bakasura need not come to the village to disturb. The demon was very happy, "Yes, very good! Why shall I come to the village if you will send everyday?" So everyone in the village was to take a turn. Today is the turn of Vedasrava brahmin. Every householder has a turn. It was a large village. A turn would come every thirty-three years, two months and twenty days. Such a great village, so many people are there. So now the turn had come to Vedasrava brahmin today. The drummer, beating drums, had proclaimed it.

So they told everything and Kunti could understand. She said, “Alright, you have only one son, don’t worry I have five sons. I’ll send one, I’ll send my son Bhima to him.” Kunti knows how Bhima is strong, Bhima can kill this demon. “Please don’t worry, you have helped us when we were in distress, so in your distress I must help, we must help you.” So Kunti called her son Bhima and said, “Bhima, they are crying because their only son wants to go for the food of Bakasura the demon. He should not go, I want that you go instead.” Bhima became very happy, “Alright I’ll go.” And Mother Kunti said, “They have helped us when we are in calamity, danger, distress now this is their calamity and their distress, we must help them.” Bhima said, “Very well, I’ll go”

Killing the Demon Bakasura

bhima and the cartSo Bakasura’s food is such a huge amount, a huge amount of rice about 5120 mounds of rice, such a huge amount. 5120 mounds of cooked rice and one cart load of manda-pita – some cake and one pair of buffalo. The buffalo are pushing the cart and one human being. Everything is Bakasura's food. So Bhima said, “Alright very nice food for me today, enough food. Such a huge amount of rice, such a cart load of manda-pita and the demon is there. I’ll kill him.” Bhima was very happy.

BHima fighting BakasuraSo he rode the cart and broke the cart and started eating rice and eating manda-pita calling, “Hey! Dusta raksasa, stupid rascal raksasa come out!” That Bakasura came out and saw someone is eating his food and calling him. "Who is that person?" Bakasura up-rooted the big trees and threw them onto Bhima. Bhima did the same thing. He uprooted trees and threw them onto him so there was fierce fighting, very fierce fighting. At last Bhima killed the demon. Finished. The demon was killed then he just prepared himself to return to his mother.

Arjuna shooting arrowSo in the meantime Arjuna came back from the bhiksa and saw that brother Bhima was not there. He asked Mother, “Mother where is brother Bhima? Mother Kunti told everything to Bhima how Bhima had gone to Bakasura. So Arjuna said, “Alright,” and thought, ‘Oh brother Bhima will be fighting alone with the asura. He must be facing some trouble so I must go and help him.’ He told Mother Kunti, “Mother you please stay here. I am going. Let the other brothers come back, so you stay. Within a short time they will arrive, I am going to help Bhima bhai, brother Bhima.”

So seeing the marks of the wheels of the cart Arjuna went. So halfway he thought, ‘Oh, it will take time to reach there, so brother Bhima is facing much trouble, so what shall I do? So he shot nagapasa-astra, snake arrow. He told him, “Alright you naga, go and bind up that asura, Bakasura." So the cobra went. On the way Arjuna met brother Bhima and heard that the demon was already killed. Then Bhima said, “Alright you go back to mother, I have sent that nagapasa, that naga, cobra may be moving around there and may hurt or bite somebody, and create some disturbances, I am going to settle him up.”

tree in the jungle

So Arjuna went there and saw the cobra and told him, “Naga, alright you stay here under this Tamal tree.” Then cobra said, “Alright I’ll stay here but how can I survive, what is my food? Make some arrangement of my food.” “Alright, you never go out from the root of this Tamal tree. If someone or some animal, by chance comes to you, you’ll devour him, but don’t go out and eat anybody.” So he was doing like that.

Nityananda Prabhu said, “Alright, you should not do like that anymore. You are killing some innocent animals and human beings, this is not good. You stay in that hole and don’t come out, remain inside underneath that Tamal tree and don’t hurt anybody.” Then the cobra said, “How can I survive? What is my food?” Nityananda Prabhu said, “People will come and offer worship to you. They will offer so much bhoga, you’ll get so much food.” Do you understand?

Lord Nityananda with one earringSo following the order of Nityananda Prabhu, that great cobra remained inside the hole. Nityananda Prabhu took off one of His golden kundalas [earrings] from one of his ears and put in the hole of the Tamal tree and covered it. Nityananda Prabhu then returned to the house with His brother Banka Rai. So from that day, Nityananda Prabhu or Lord Balaram, Sri Baladeva has only one kundala, eka-kundala, not two kundalas, understand. The kundala gradually increased, increased, increased, now it has turned into a huge block of stone, big block of stone and people have built a small temple on it. People are going there and offering worship to that naga, cobra. They are offering many items of bhoga. That place is known as kundali-tala. Still that place is there. This is the story.

Sri Banka Raya
A story about Lord Nityananda's younger brother
spacer

Banka Raya at EkacakraAnother boyhood lila is of Nityananda Prabhu's younger brother, Banka Raya. Banka means three places curved, this means Krsna, Raya means Radharani. So combined together is Gauranga. So Lord Nityananda's younger brother Banka Raya was taking care of the cultivation of the lands, maybe five, ten hectares of land. He was overseeing the cultivation and clearing of the land. One day there was a big patch of land there near their village of Ekacakra that needed to be cleared. Many kulis, daily labors, were engaged in uprooting the weeds from this plot of land. So it was now midday noon and still they have not even finished half of the land. They were now hungry and tired so Banka Raya said, “It is already noon, you might all be hungry, so go to your houses, take food and rest then come back in the afternoon." So they all went back to their homes.

Banka Raya then uprooted all the weeds by himself, he cleared the entire block of land in just one hour, the entire five hectares plot of land. He just collecting everything and put it into a big mound. After fifty waged laborers could not complete it Banka Raya finished it. When the kulis came back in the afternoon they saw that Banka Raya, such a small boy, had cleared all the weeds alone. So they went back and told his father, “Oh Pandita, Hadai Pandit!” They said, “Pandita Ajna, your younger son has uprooted and cleared all the weeds of that block of land within an hour and now he is putting it into a mound. Many people came, many villages came to see the wonderful activities of Banka Raya. When Banka Raya saw his father is coming, his mother, Padmavati and the villagers are coming, he hid himself behind a big mound of weeds and disappeared. When they came there they couldn’t find him. They couldn’t find him anywhere. Banka Raya has already disappeared.

When His mother heard that her son had disappeared, she came running, crying and crying. All knew that Banka Raya was no more, he had already disappeared. So all the villagers and his father and mother were crying. At that time an aerial voice of Banka Raya said, “You’ll never find me in this form now, you’ll never see me in this form. This coming ekadasi-tithi you’ll find me floating in this river Yamuna in the wooden dharu-murti, wooden form of the deity.” That place is known as Kadamba-khandi on the banks of the river Yamuna.

Lord Nityananda

So on that ekadasi day the villagers went to the river Yamuna and at the proper time they saw the wooden log floating. Nityananda Prabhu Himself picked it up and carved the murti form of Bankabihari Krsna and named it Banka Raya or Bankimdev and installed this murti. That deity is still there in a temple in the village of Ekacakra. And it is said that when Nityananda Prabhu disappeared, He entered into this Deity and disappeared. So on this Nityananda avirbhava-tithi, in this village, a very big festival takes place in front of the temple. This is the description given in the Bhakti-ratnakara.

Sri Visvarupa the Sannyasi
The elder brother of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
spacer

Lord Nityananda

So during his boyhood pastimes Nityananda was giving all pleasure, enjoyment and happiness to all the villagers of the village Ekacakra. So all where very happy, spending their lives very happily when Nityananda Prabhu was there. When He was twelve years old, a wandering mendicant came to that village and became the guest of Hadai Ojha. In Caitanya Bhagavat it is mentioned:

daive eka dina eka sannyasi sundara
ahalena nityananda-janakera ghara

nityananda-pita tane bhiksa karahaya
rakhilena parama-ananda yukta hana
[Caitanya Bhagavata, Madhya 3.77-78]

One day by divine arrangement, a handsome sannyasi came to the home of Lord Nityananda's father. Hadai Ojha offered alms and hospitality to Him.

He was a very handsome looking wandering mendicant. Nityananda Prabhu’s father, Hadai Ojha gave him shelter. He became the guest of Hadai Ojha. Hadai Ojha was very happy to have such a guest. This sannyasi is the elder brother of Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Visvarupa. In the Caitanya-caritamrta it is mentioned:

tabe putra janamila visvarupa nama
maha-gunavan teha-‘baladeva’-dhama

baladeva-prakasa-parama-vyome ‘sankarsana
‘tenha-visvera upadana-nimitta-karana
[Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila, 13.74-75]

After this, Jagannatha Misra got a son of the name Visvarupa, who was most powerful and highly qualified because He was the incarnation of Baladeva.

The expansion of Baladeva known as Sankarsana in the spiritual world is the ingredient and immediate cause of this material cosmic manifestation.

Sankarsana

Caitanya-caritamrta it is mentioned This Visvarupa is Maha-Sankarsana, in Vaikuntha. He is Baladeva. So in Gaura-Ganoddesa-dipika it is mentioned:

bhakta-svarupa nityananda braje yah sri halayudha
baladevo-visvarup vyahah sankarsano matah
nityananda avadhuta se prakasena sa ucyate

Sri Baladeva

In the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika it is mentioned, Nityananda is Balaram of Vrajabhumi. Visvarupa is Sankarsana. He is a manifestation of Nityananda avadhuta. So Balaram in Dvarupa yuga is Nitai in Kali yuga with Gaura. Caitanaya-caritamrta mentions,

ataeva prabhu tanre bale, ‘bada bhai’
krsna, balaram dui-caitanya, nitai
[Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila, 13.78]

Because Maha-Sankarsana is the highest ingredient and efficient cause of the cosmic manifestation, He is present in every detail of it. Lord Caitanya therefore called Him His elder brother. The two brothers are known as Krsna and Balarama in the spiritual world, but at present moment They are Caitanya and Nitai. Therefore the conclusion is that Nityananda Prabhu is the original Sankarsana, Baladeva.

Sri Sri Gaura Nitai

Therefore Mahaprabhu called His elder brother ‘bada bhai,’ so Krsna Balaram are also known as Caitanya Nitai.

I Want Your Son

Vaisnava sannyasiSo Visvarupa, the elder brother of Mahaprabhu did not marry. He left home and accepted sannyasa. His name was Sankararanya Puri. So this sannyasi, Visvarupa, Sankararanya Puri came to the village of Ekacakra as the guest of Hadai Ojha. Hadai Ojha gave him a place to sit under a big banyan tree there. That tree is still there today. Because he is a sannyasi he did not stay in the house. So every day Hadai Ojha was serving the sannyasi, taking him some food and whatever he needed, his requirements. Sometimes Nityananda was going with his father, and sometimes Hadai Ojha was sending things with Nityananda to the sannyasi. Seeing Nityananda Prabhu's handsome looking features and very sweet words, the sannyasi, Sankararanya Puri, Visvarupa, again and again was looking at Him, just gazing.

Lord NityanandaOne day He thought, 'I shall leave this place and go to some other place.' That day he called for Hadai Ojha and said, “I have one thing to ask for you, please give me, you should give me. I am sannyasi, I am asking bhiksa, you should give me.” Hadai Ojha said, “Alright, whatever you ask I’ll give, You are a sannyasi, I am a grhastha, I must serve you.” The sannyasi said, “I am going out for pilgrimage to visit many tirthas, holy places, I want your son, your elder son, Nityananda to go with me.” He begged for this.

When Hadai Ojha heard this thing, he was so much shocked in his heart. ‘What is this sannyasi begging?’ Hadai Ojha only has one son. So he couldn’t say anything because he was not willing to leave Nityananda Prabhu. So what happened? So he went to his wife Padmavati and asked, “That sannyasi is begging these alms from me, what do you say?” Padmavati is a chaste and devoted wife she said, “What you do I have no objection, I'll follow Lord Rama Sita and Laksamanyou. I am your devoted wife, I have no objection.” So Hadai Ojha recollected the events of Ramayana. ‘Such a sannyasi, Visvamrta came to Dasaratha and asked for his two sons Rama and Laksmana. Now this sannyasi is begging for my son, Nityananada. Though Dasaratha was unwilling, still he gave. This had happened to me.’ Hadia Ojha thought like that. ‘And Padmavati, chaste and devoted wife gives consent. So what to do? I must give.’ So he came back to the sannyasi, Sankararanya Puri, Visvarupa with his son, his very beloved son, Nityananda and handed Him over to the sannyasi. Hanging down his head he went back.

So Sankararanya Puri went out for pilgrimage taking Nityananda Prabhu with him. When Nityananda Prabhu left that village, many evil omens took place in Ekacakra village. All the villagers became very unhappy. Hadai Ojha and his wife Padmavati disappeared. And all the friends of Nityananda Prabhu felt very unhappy. Some of them went out for pilgrimage and some became mendicants, ascetics and left home. Everything became inauspicious, very inauspicious.

Visvarupa was traveling through South India, visiting some holy places. In 1510 A.D., near Pandarpur He disappeared, aprakata. Visvarupa left His body. It is said that Visvarupa entered into the body of Nityananda. It is said. Do you understand? These are some of the pastimes of Nityananda Prabhu.

Pastimes in Navadvipa

Sri Srivasa PanditLord NityanandaWhen Nityananda Prabhu came to Nadia, Mahaprabhu placed Him in the care of Srivasa Pandit. Srivasa Pandit had developed great love and affection for Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananada Prabhu was not eating food with his own hand. He was acting like a baby. Srivasa’s wife, Malati Devi was feeding him like a mother feeds her son. Malati Devi, with her own hands was feeding Nityananda Prabhu like a son. One day Srivasa Pandit and Nityananda Prabhu were talking about Krsna, Krsna-katha. At that time, Mahaprabhu came there, He appeared there. Mahaprabhu wanted to test the love and affection of Srivasa towards Nityananda. Mahaprabhu said, "Srivasa you know this Nityananda is an avadhuta? He is an avadhuta. What is His gotra? It is uncertain, nobody knows. Why are you keeping such an avadhuta in your house? All your kula-gotra [family lineage] will be polluted, and destroyed. Drive him out!" Mahaprabhu had given Srivasa a test. Srivasa replied:

madira-yavani yadi
nityananda dhare
jati-pranadhana yadi
mora nasa kare

tathapi mohara citte
nahika anyatha
satya satya tomare
kahilun ei katha

[Caitanya Bhagavata, Madhya-lila, 8.15-16]

Srivasa Pandit had such strong attachment, love and affection towards Nityananda. He said, madira-yavani, madira means drunkard. Yavani is the feminine gender for yavana, [low class person]. Madira yavani-yavana yadi nityananda dhare jati-pranadhana yadi mora nasa kare. "Even if a madira-yavani comes and catches hold of Nityananda while He is staying in my house, thus polluting and destroying all my caste, my gotra, my life and soul, everything, still I won't give up Nityananda!" Do you understand?

Then Srivasa Pandit said, "This is satya, satya, satya." This is truth, this is truth, this is truth. Three times he said satya, satya, satya. Mahaprabhu became very much pleased that Srivasa Pandit has developed so much love and affection towards Nityananda. When Mahaprabhu heard this, He roared, "Oh Srivasa! You have such unflinching faith in Nityananda!! How do you know? My Nityananda is very, very confidential. How do you know it? I am very much pleased with you.

Pastimes With Srimati Sacidevi

Sometimes Nityananda would come to the house of Mahaprabhu and catch hold of the lotus feet of Sacimata. One day Sacimata had a dream. She told her son, Visvambhara, Mahaprabhu what she saw. "Visvambhara I saw You and Nityananda in a dream. You were a five year old boy and both of You were wandering about my house. Your complexion was Syama [black] and Nitai's complexion was gaura. Both of You entered into the Deity room, where Balarama and Krsna deities are staying and You caught hold of those two deities. You caught hold of Balarama deity and Nitai caught hold of Krsna deity. You were manifesting so many wonderful lilas, I saw. Sometimes amongst Yourselves you were sometimes quarreling, so many things. Nityananda was calling me saying, "Mother, I am very hungry, give me food, I want to eat.""

SacimataWhen Visvambhara heard this He said, "Mother you saw a very auspicious dream, very nice, auspicious dream, please don’t tell it to anyone, keep it inside, keep it confidential. Nityananda Prabhu said he is hungry he wants food from you so you must prepare nice food and invite Nityananda today. You’ll give him food, He will eat it today."

So Sacimata prepared very nice food, very palatable, then went to Nityananda and invited him. So Nityananda Prabhu came. Both Mahaprabhu and Nityananda washed their hands and feet and sat down together, Sacimata was serving the food.

In Treta yuga it was like this, Kausalya was serving Rama and Laksmana. So beautiful. So Sacimata was serving and the two brothers were eating. Sacimata was going to bring some food from the kitchen and coming back, Sacimata saw that Visvambhara and Nitai were like five year old naked boys running around. Visvambhara’s bodily complexion was Krsna-varna - blackish and Nityananda was sukla-varna - whitish, very beautiful. These two were five year old naked boys. Visvambhara was exhibiting a four handed form carrying sankha, cakra, gada, and padma and Nityananda was carrying hala [plough] and musala [club]. Sacimata saw her daughter-in-law in the heart of her son.

When she saw this thing she fainted, she fell down on the ground, unconscious. Immediately Mahaprabhu got up, washed His hands, picked up Mother Sacimata and consoled her. Mother you should understand that Nityananda is your son, yes, yes. You should develop much more affection, love and affection towards Nityananda than to Me. Hearing this, Sacimata said, "Alright Nityananda, from today you become my son. You two are my sons, Visvambhara and Yourself." Saying this she shed tears, loving tears. Sacimata called, "Son! Son!" She picked up Nityananda Prabhu and put Him onto her lap. Nityananda Prabhu also in the mood of her son, paid obeisances at the lotus feet of Sacimata and said, "Oh Mother, what ever you say, yes, I am son, I accept this as truth. From today I become your son please if I commit an aparadha, please excuse me. Mother always excuses the aparadhas of the son.

This is the very nice pastimes, boyhood pastimes of Gaura-Nitai.

Sri Nityananda

Srimati Malini Devi

Such wonderful lilas. So Nityananda Prabhu was staying in the house of Srivasa Pandita and treating the wife of Srivasa Pandita, Malini Devi as his mother. Day and night Nityananda Prabhu was in the mood of a baby child Who would sucks to the breast of Malini Devi. There is no milk in the breast, she is an old woman, still as soon as Nityananda touches the breast, milk comes out, it flows.

crowOne day a crow came and took the small ghee pot of Thakura. With his beak he took it and flew away and put somewhere then came back with an empty beak. The crow was just sitting there crowing, "cauw, cauw, cauw." So Malini Devi saw, 'oh the crow has not come back with the ghee pot.' She was very much aggrieved, Pandita, her husband, will come and rebuke her so Malini Devi was crying. At that time Nityananda Prabhu came and smiling said, "Oh Mother why are you crying? What has happened? Please tell me. Tell me. Tell me. What is your problem? I must solve your problem.

Malini Devi said, "Oh Sripada Gosani, this crow took away the ghee pot of Thakura and dropped it somewhere. Now with his empty beak, he is just sitting there crowing, cauw, cauw, cauw."

Lord NityanandaNityananda Prabhu said, "Oh Mother don’t worry, I’ll get it back. Please don’t cry, I’ll get it back. He ordered, “Hey crow! Immediately bring back the ghee pot!" So the crow immediately went and brought back the ghee pot. The crow put it in the courtyard. Seeing this, Malini Devi was amazed, Nityananda Prabhu has such wonderful influence and power. She said, "Oh Nityananda, are You not that personality in Dvapara-yuga? You brought back the dead sons of Your Guru? Isn’t this You? Aren’t You that same Personality? Are You not that same unlimited ananta-sesa Whom the whole world rests upon one of Your hoods like a mustard seed? Aren’t You that person? In Treta-yuga weren’t You Laksmana? You served Mother Sita so much. You killed the unconquerable demon, Indrajita, didn't You? So is it wonderful that You bring back this ghee pot? Malini Devi said all these things.

When Nityananda Prabhu heard all his glories, He said, "Mother, Mother I want to suck to your breast!” So Malini Devi took up Nityananda and put Him in her lap and Nityananda sucked her breast. This is the inconceivable lila of Nityananda. Nobody can conceive of it, think of it, inconceivable.

Sri Sri Gaura Nitai

One day Visvambhara was sitting with his wife Laksmipriya inside the room and Laksmipriya was offering tambul, betel nut to her husband. At that time Nityananda being intoxicated with krsna-prema came and entered the room naked. He is an avadhuta, a naked mad fellow. Visnupriya was there. Mahaprabhu saw Nityananda is naked, "Oh Nityananda, why are you naked? Put on cloth, put on cloth!" So Mahaprabhu took off His chadar and put it on Nityananda. Sacimata was observing this thing, so wonderful and laughing. And Sacimata was thinking Nityananda is her elder son, Visvarupa.

Srimati Sacidevi and the Sandesh

Sri NitaiOne day Sacimata gave five sandesa to Nityananda to eat. Nityananda ate one and threw out the other four. Sacimata said, "Oh alas, what did you do? You threw out four sandesa. What will you eat? Nityananda said, "Oh Mother why did you give Me all at once? Then Sacimata said, "Oh now there is no more sandesa in the house, what will you eat? Nityananda said, "You might go into the house and see that they may be lying there." Sacimata went into the house and saw the four sandeses were lying there. So she brought the four sandesa out but there was some dust them. She was thinking, 'Nityananda threw them outside the boundary wall and how they came into the house is so wonderful.' Sacimata came with those four sandesas but saw Nityananda is already eating those four sandesas. What is this? I brought the sandesa here but he is again eating them! Then Sacimata asked Nityananda, "Where did you find this sandesa?" Nityananda said, "Mother I had thrown them away but when you became aggrieved I got them back." So seeing this avadhuta's wonderful lila, Sacimata said, "I cannot recognize who You are? Who are You? I came with those four sandesas with some dust over them, then I see You are eating those four sandesas. What is this? I brought this here and he is again eating them! Why are You cheating me? Why are You cheating me? Why are you cheating me? Who are you? Please tell me. I cannot understand, I cannot recognize you." Then Nityananda came inside and said "Mother, Mother, Mother, I am hungry, I am hungry and He ran to touch the feet of Mother Saci. These are the wonderful pastimes of Nityananda.

Lord NityanandaOne day Nityananda Prabhu was acting like a small child, naked, laughing, with tears coming out from His two eyes. They are tears of love. Sometimes He was roaring and sometimes jumping, sometimes dancing. He entered into the room where Mahaprabhu was sitting.

Mahaprabhu saw, Nityananda Prabhu is naked. Immediately Mahaprabhu took off His turban cloth and put it on... made Nityananda Prabhu put on it. Then Mahaprabhu brought nice scented sandalwood paste and smeared the whole body of Nityananda. He brought Nityananda a nice flower garland and put it around His neck. He made Him sit on a nice simhasana and then offered a prayer.

name nityananda tumi, rupe nityananda
ei tumi nityananda rama-murttimanta
[Sri Caitanya Bhagavata, Madhya 12.18]

Your name is Nityananda. Your form is so beautiful, which is eternally pleasing form. You are this Nityananda Rama.'

He offered this prayer.

Sri NityanandaThen Mahaprabhu begged one piece of kaupinas from Nityananda Prabhu and tore it into pieces. He then distributed it among the devotees and told them, "All of you put this piece of kaupina on your head, you'll get krsna-bhakti. Take it and offer worship to it in your house, you'll get krsna-bhakti."

Then Mahaprabhu asked all the devotees, "Take this feet washing water of Nityananda and drink it." When Mahaprabhu ordered, all took the foot washing water of Nityananda, His caranamrta and drank It. They felt themselves very much purified.

So the two brothers Nitai and Gaura are intoxicated with krsna-prema. They chanted:

hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare

They chanted and danced like madmen.

Then Mahaprabhu told all the devotees, "O devotees, those who develop love, affection and respect for Sri Nityananda, they develop love and affection to Me. All the demigods headed by Siva and Brahma, all of them, they offer worship to Nityananda Prabhu. Nobody should blaspheme Nityananda Prabhu. If somebody thinks ill of Nityananda Prabhu, blasphemes Him, whatever he maybe, even he be a great devotee of mine, still he must fall down. I'll kick him out. If the nice scented air coming out from the body of Nityananda Prabhu touches someone's body, immediately they'll get krsna-prema-bhakti."

So hearing this all the devotees said,

"Jaya Jaya Nitai-Cand Ki Jaya!
Prema-Datta Nitai-Candra Ki Jaya!
Patita-Pavana Nityananda-Raya Ki Jaya!"
